pages from the book G.I. Joe: The Story Behind The legend
We are a group of action figures enthusiasts who have for a long time very much into the hobby. Among us, we have sculptors, painters, collectors, photographers, even filmmkaers; we all share the same passion on the art of fine details. Such art is adequately manifested in today’s standard of action figure. We’d like to use this site to communicate with the world.
“A boy’ll never play with dolls.” This is taken from a chapter of the book G.I. Joe: The Story Behind The legend . This line captured what was thought to be too feminin a hobby for boy: 1/6 scale or 12 inch action figure with changable clothes. The success of the Joes and the following flourishing action figure hobby implies two possibilities; i) Boys do play with dolls, or ii) those are not just dolls. For a matter of convinience I’m more inclined to believe ii, that they are not just dolls. Look at what we are seeing today with the meticulously made Bruce Lee from Enterbay, the whole array of movie lisence figures from Hottoys, is it alright to call them “dolls”? For their artistic archievement (and Price), I don’t think so. Even the more affordable children targeted action figures are now much more attention to detail.
